Campsites welcome local wildlife so campers get the chance to share their vacation location with wildlife from birds, bats and squirrels, and depending on where you go even wild ponies and horses. When you are camping you get to communicate with nature, you will be woken by the chorus of birds singing, and you never quite fully comprehend this experience especially if you live in the city.
Campsite owners plant thousands of trees and shrubs every year to enhance the landscape for guests and also putting something back, which I think is more evident now in this day and age than ever.
When it comes to other forms of environmental impact campers also score well on other levels too. Okay often a lot of campers will arrive at the campsite in their car but once they are on site they will generally get out the walking boots or the mountain bike for the means of getting around on their vacation.
A lot of campsites in the north of England use special underground tanks to collect the rainwater (trust me it rains a lot in the north of England) and then it is used throughout the holiday season to flush all the toilets on site.
It comes down to less electricity, less water and less pollution. Campers really do leave a small footprint compared to a family of four jet setting across Europe. And so they should as much of the camping experience comes from enjoying your natural surroundings. In a countryside that is constantly changing and evolving, not always for the better, camping gives you the least impact and offers you the 'camper' the opportunity of enjoying it without spoiling it. I would say if you have never experienced camping before it is something that must at least be tried once. So go on give it s shot, especially if you have young children as they will benefit most from the experience.
